2. To provide education on the relationship between health and diet. Many of our major health illnesses (diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, etc) can be reversed dramatically, if not completely, by dietary modifications.
3. To increase awareness of the environmental and global impacts of factory farming.
4. To promote love and compassion towards all beings and awareness that all beings are sentient.
To provide love and care for rescued animals and provide education about love and compassion to the general public.
Love, compassion, integrity, responsibility and safety
Founded in 2000 by Dr. Sankar Sastri, Lakshmi Cow Sanctuary Inc., is a 501(c)3 registered non-profit organization under the State of Pennsylvania. The sanctuary serves all public who are interested in love and compassion or experiencing the warmth of rescued farm animals. Lakshmi Cow and Animal sanctuary rescues and provides a safe, nurturing home for cows and other animals destined for slaughter or living in harsh, unnatural environments. We strive to promote compassion and love towards all living beings, increase awareness of the health and environmental impacts related to factory farming and overall (individual and global) benefits of a vegetarian/vegan diet. We promote our core values and provide ways of incorporating the same values into everyday life. When you visit us, you will be able to feed the animals, learn about them, and spend significant time with them.
Our unique attributes
All helpers are volunteers who work to care of the animals with love and compassion. Located in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, we are 80 miles from New York City. Many patrons come from varying distances to celebrate special events in their lives by feeding the cows/animals and have found the sanctuary to be a deeply inner-transformative experience.
The sanctuary also sells dried cow dung patties for use in specific ceremonies (Homa). All proceeds directly contribute to animal care or farm maintenance.
